Limerick PPS 1st year Final Result:
Causeway CS 4-19
Colaiste Iosaef Kilmallock 2-10
Well done to our first year hurlers who were today crowned Limerick PPS 1st year champions. In the glorious sunshine of Askeaton GAA grounds the game started well from a Causeway perspective with early scores from Dean O'Leary and Anthony Doherty setting a good early tempo that the Limerick men struggled to get to terms with. The first green flag of the game came from the stick of Evan Diggin with a rasping finish after some good interplay in the build up. Additional points from Ruairi O'Brien and Anthony Doherty followed but it was the work rate of the entire team typified by Patrick Kirby and Ronán Barron that was the most pleasing aspect of the game. When Evan Diggin again profiteered from a turnover forced by Patrick Kirby he made no mistake with another excellent finish giving us a strong lead at the break.
After halftime the Causeway lads continued to work hard to ensure no complacency crept into their play and a string of scores in the 5 minutes after halftime including a long range goal from Cian Whyte and a typical poachers finish from Anthony Doherty extended our lead further. The Kilmallock side threw everything at the closing stages of the game and scored a quick fire brace of goals to narrow the gap but our lads were determined not to leave this one behind them. The final stages of the game were lit up by excellent scores from Dean O'Leary, Ruairi O'Brien and Lorcan Enright.
They were great celebrations at the full time whistle and captain for the day Ruairi Condon accepted the Joyce Cup on behalf of the team from Michael Mann of Limerick GAA
Full congratulations to this very talented team and we look forward to building on this successful year with next years U15 team. Many thanks to the large number of parents who made the trip to shout on the team.
