Celebrating Excellence at Causeway Comprehensive School Annual Student Awards 2025/26
Causeway Comprehensive School last night marked one of the highlights of its academic calendar with the hosting of its Annual Student Awards ceremony for the 2025/26 school year. The event celebrated the outstanding achievements, dedication, and spirit of students across all year groups, recognising excellence in attendance, academic effort, extracurricular involvement, and contribution to school life.
Academic achievements were a major focus of the evening. Award recipients included Milo Cronin (Canon Willie O’Connor Award for Leaving Certificate Irish for 2025), Daryna Khrystiuk (John O’Regan Award for highest Leaving Certificate results in 2025), and Aisling Gaynor (Lucille O’Sullivan Award). Top-performing students in Junior and Senior Cycle subjects were also acknowledged, with students such as Niamh O’Connor, Ashling Dwyer, Mia Hunt, Rian O’Carroll, Ella Mahony, Ava Fitzgerald, and Dominick Regan receiving subject awards.
The prestigious Principal’s Awards for Student of the Year. Mia Hunt was named Junior Student of the Year, while Jake Segal received the Senior Student of the Year Award, in recognition of their outstanding contribution, leadership, dedication and academic achievement throughout the year. Special recognition was given to Mary Reidy, who received the Ethos & Spirit of the School Award (in memory of Eileen Sheehan), highlighting her exceptional contribution to the positive culture of the school.
The Diligence Awards recognised students who consistently demonstrated hard work, dedication, and a positive attitude towards their studies. A wide cohort of students from 1st through to 6th Year received this award, reflecting the school’s emphasis on effort and perseverance as key drivers of success. Transition Year students were particularly recognised for their participation and growth across a broad range of activities. Recipients of the TY Award included Danielle Roche, Abbie Lynch, Max Fitzgerald, Cathal Slattery, Clodagh Carroll, and Davina Galway. Students’ involvement beyond the classroom was also celebrated through awards for extracurricular engagement. From Book Club participation to the ever-popular Xbox Club, students such as Anastasia Kovalenko and Ethan Kelly were acknowledged for contributing to school life during lunchtime activities.
Sport continues to play a central role in school life at Causeway CS, with students achieving success across football, hurling, basketball, soccer, badminton, athletics, camogie, and girls’ football. Notable award winners included William Duggan, Dean O’Leary, Billy Moriarty, and John Curtin in football, while Athletics was Katie Butler and Hannah Sheehy. While Conor Slattery, Evan Diggins, and Sean Ross were recognised in hurling. In girls’ sport, students including Emma Diggins, Sinéad Flynn, Sarah Slattery, Gráinne Maher, Joanne Canty, Paige Murphy, and Sarah Diggins were honoured for their contributions and performance Students like Carrie Cunningham and Oliwia Doboszynska were acknowledged for their success in Badminton, illustrating the breadth of talent within the school. It was also recognised that the school had secured 13 trophies this year in a variety of sports and at county, regional and national level.
Each Year head awarded students who embodied the values of their cohort with the Year Head Award, among those honoured were Liam Houlihan and Willow Molloy, Leah Doody, Gary O’Mahony, Saoirse O’Rourke and Ryan Moriarty, Cathal Slattery and Emily Fealy, and Daniel Nolan and Katelyn O’Mahony.
Another key highlight of the evening was the recognition of students who achieved an exceptional 100% attendance record throughout the year. Among those honoured were Padraig O’Sullivan, Fiada Houlihan, Fionán Maunsell, and Nora O’Carroll, alongside Chelsea Daley and a strong group of Transition Year students including Carla Enright, Des O’Carroll, Steve Reidy, Cathal Slattery, Maria O’Connell, and Abigail Egan. Senior students were also acknowledged for their commitment, with Liam Maunsell and Katie Egan receiving awards for perfect attendance. In addition, a large number of students across all year groups were commended for excellent attendance, having missed only one or two days, demonstrating a strong culture of engagement and responsibility among the student body.
The Annual Student Awards at Causeway Comprehensive School once again highlighted the extraordinary talent, dedication, and spirit of its students. Special mention was given to Grace Diggins who also recently won Young Economist of the Year 2026 and James McLernon who was recognised for his success in the Law Society of Ireland’s National Essay Competition. The ceremony not only celebrated individual success but also reflected the strong sense of community and shared values that define the school.
