Tuesday
North Munster Track and Field :
Last Tuesday & Thursday Athletes from Causeway CS took part in the North Munster Track and Field event in Castleisland. The event was held over two days and our athletes enjoyed great success. Maddison O’Connor won silver in the triple jump, Katie Butler won silver in the shot and javelin, Conor Slattery won silver in the 100m, Hannah Sheehy won gold in the walk and bronze in the high jump while Matilda Boulton won bronze in the walk.
On the track Causeway CS entered a relay team for the first time in fifteen years and they each ran very well. Billy Moriarty was unlucky to be squeezed into fourth place in the 400m final, and Steve Reidy narrowly missed out on a medal in the 200m final. Richie Reidy qualified through to his final in the 200m also. We look forward to continued success in the coming years and hope to attract more participants to represent our great school.
Thursday
Some of our 5th year students attended the annual Kerry ETB Tag Rugby tournament held on Thursday 7th May in John Mitchels in Tralee. Causeway had 3 teams at the blitz with one Causeway team winning 3 of their 4 matches, eventually losing to the winning school. A great day was had by everyone with all students getting an opportunity to play and learn from the referees. Well done to all students and many thanks to John Creagh who organised the event.
Our first years participated in a Limerick schools blitz on Thursday, finishing with 1 win from their 3 games.
Friday
All first year students attended the annual Kerry ETB athletics day in An Ríocht in Castleisland. First year students got the chance to compete in sprints of 100m, 200m, 400m and 1500m, relays, shot put, javelin and the long jump. Students participated well across all the events and brought gold and silver medals home to Causeway. A huge well done to Willow Molloy who received a silver medal in the long jump and to Kitty Dineen who brought home a gold and a silver medal in the sprinting events, winning an impressive gold medal in the 1500m sprint. All students had an enjoyable day and represented the school brilliantly. Many thanks to the organisers of the event and to our PE department for taking all of the students.
