Causeway Comprehensive School introduced a new programme to our school in 2016. This programme involves supporting in how we deal effectively with any bullying issues within the school. This programme will enhance the existing positive anti bullying culture that already exists within the school.
This programme involves a committee called the Personal Safety Board ( P.S.B ). This Board is made up of a number of teachers who have volunteered their free time to investigate any bullying issues that may arise in the school. This anti bullying programme sets out clear procedures and sanctions in dealing with bullying issues and supports our current anti bullying policy.
The PSB is a board which not only will investigate any complaints but will also help and support both parties in the complaint. Our programme is about changing a student's behaviour whereby all students accept that bullying behaviour is unacceptable and that working with the PSB, it can be stopped and resolved.
Indeed, this programme, along with our annual Anti Bullying Awareness Week, is focused on changing student's behaviour and attitude towards bullying complaints. Causeway Comprehensive School is in a unique position as this programme is only in a number of schools throughout the country, where it has been very successful.
Our goal is and always will be a "no blame just stop approach" that is to change the negative behaviour. If your child feels that they are being bullied, they can inform the PSB by speaking to one of the PSB board members, leave a signed note in the PSB complaint box (red box in reception area) or indeed simply ring or call in. The complaint will be dealt with in a confidential manner and with the support of those affected.
This programme is of great benefit to the school and for its success both parental and student support is vital. The school has a strong record in creating a safe environment and this programme hopes to build on this. The PSB co-ordinator is Ms Marion Herlihy.
