Transition Year is optional in Causeway Comprehensive. Transition Year students experience a broad range of activities aimed at developing their self esteem, creativity and initiative as well as their communication and personal development skills. They continue to study the core curriculum throughout the year as well as sample Leaving Certificate subjects.
Transition Year (TY) Programme
The Transition Year fees vary on each year between €450 - €600 which covers the core costs such as visits, activities etc. Optional choices to events, activities may have a cost but the school will also give a contribution as well to reduce costs for parents
Our TY Programme covers:

All the core subjects (Maths English, Irish, PE, SPHE, Guidance),

Modules that support, for example, sampling of senior cycle subjects and other areas of learning and development

Additional learning experiences For example: study/research skills, themed learning days, life-skills, literacy and numeracy initiatives.

Portfolio Development: Supporting and guiding students to fulfil the purpose of the TY portfolio

Our own community: Local out-reach activities, community placement, social enterprise activities, education in cultural diversity Our global community • Education for Sustainable Development •A meaningful student-led personal or collaborative action related to sustainable living.

Work Placement Community Placement Additional career-related experiences For example: guest speakers, tasters in apprenticeships/traineeships/ further education/higher education, information days, government supported developmental awards, certified short courses
- Homework is limited, project work is the main theme as well as a variety of activities , visits and experiences.
